'X FACTOR' COMES TO TOWN

The X Factor has come to Trowbridge, or at least a do-it-yourself karaoke version. xfactor

The Shires shopping centre has installed an X Factor branded karaoke booth where people can choose from hundreds of songs to record live, on their own or with friends.

The machine, near the escalators, is equipped with the latest digital technology and has a motorised screen for height adjustment allowing people of all ages to perform in front of a camera.

Once the performance is complete, customers receive a verdict from three judges and the resulting video is burnt on to a DVD. Performers can take their DVD home, enjoy it with family and friends to sing along or even upload it online.

The Shires centre manager John Grinnell said: “It’s a fantastic concept and on the first day it was installed groups of people were having a go. It will appeal to those who fancy a few minutes of fame and it’s there for young and old alike. Whether you aspire to being Lady GaGa or Robbie Williams, you’re guaranteed to have some fun.

“There’s a touch screen outside the booth where people select the song they want to perform, they pay £5 and then sing away to their heart’s content.”

The booth is the result of a joint venture between Photo-Me who already provide photo booths in The Shires, and Freemantle Media, one of the world leading creators and producers of entertainment brands such as the X Factor, The Bill, The Price is Right and Hole in the Wall.
