ENTREPRENEUR OPENS SIXTH SHOP A new shop – a newsagent – is opening in Cheltenham’s Beechwood Shopping Centre on Friday. (April 30) World News will be the third shop in the shopping centre owned by businessman Mounir Maizia, giving him a total of six shops across Cheltenham. World News, which Mr Maizia describes as a traditional newsagent, will sell national and local daily papers as well as weeklies and magazines, together with cigarettes and tobacco and pick ‘n’ mix sweets. He says he is going back to where he started running his own business 12 years when he had a small newsagents in Lower High Street. Since then he has opened Cafe LaScala coffee shop and Fresh Crust, also in Beechwood, and two other coffee shops and a pastie shop in other parts of town. Mr Maizia, who has a degree in civil engineering, designs all the shops himself and says he chose the name World News because he wanted to incorporate a globe or world symbol in the title. He says taking over another shop, the former Sweet Delight, is yet another challenge, but one which he is really looking forward to. “You have to move forward and we’ll be open at 8am every day except Sundays so we hope we’ll be busy,” he said. World News will employ two full-time and one part-time staff and Mr Maizia will initially manage the shop himself. He now has 24 staff across all his six shops. |
