FASTEST MILKMAN IN THE WEST

Nineteen-year-old Tyron Cleere from Trowbridge looked to be heading for victory in The Shires shopping centre after leading the field for two hours. But he was pipped for the prize by milkman Sean, 40, just seconds before the competition ended.

A disappointed Tyron watched as Sean shaved a second off his lap time and clocked the fastest lap of the day in 2mins 52.59 secs.

Although having been to the Silverstone circuit twice before Jenson Button fan Sean said he was delighted to win the tickets and be able to take his nine-year-old son Cole to the British Grand Prix to see all the Formula 1 stars, including Lewis Hamilton, in action.

The Shires Father’s Day Challenge , which ran in the shopping centre from 10am to 4pm was busy all day, with teenagers and dads pitting their driving skills against the clock on the simulators displaying the Donington Park racing circuit.

The Shires centre manager John Grinnell said the competition attracted a constant stream of competitors on the four screens set up in the centre square near Boswells cafe and thanked everyone for taking part. He congratulated the winner with sincere commiserations to runner-up Tyron who looked a certain victor until the last race.

Third place went to 14-year-old Warren Lewin from Staverton, another Jenson Button fan, who recorded a time of 2mins 55 secs.
