STUDENT WINS £1,000

sam owens_webBristol University student Sam Owens walked away with £1,000 to spend in Clifton Down Shopping Centre in Bristol in its Grab a Grand competition.

Sam, 23, who has just arrived in the City to study for a Masters in engineering design, was one of six Freshers who grabbed more than £1,000 fake money in the shopping centre’s cash cube competition. His name was then drawn from a hat, making him the overall winner. He's pictured right inside the cube.

More than 400 students originally entered the competition during the Freshers Fair and 20 names were chosen at random to take part in the grand final.

They then went head to head in the cash cube final, trying the grab as much fake money being blown around inside the cube.

Horfield mum Rebecca John then drew Sam’s name from the hat and the delighted Sam, from Wolverhampton who is living in Hotwells while studying at University, said he would probably be spending the vouchers in Sainsbury’s, O2, WHSmith and Smartset Sports.

“I had to run from an exam and only just made it to the shopping centre in time. It was a race against time but it was certainly well worth the effort,” said Sam.

Two runners up, whose names were also drawn from the hat, were William Judd and Louise Phillips who received Boots’ goodie bags.
